Email Verification Addon

Overview

Email Verification keeps bad addresses out of Interspire Email Marketer. It verifies contacts as they enter IEM and can bulk-verify existing lists in the background through ClearBounce.

Requires IEM 8.8.0+ for full signup/API/import verification. Bulk verification works on IEM 8.7.5+. ClearBounce credits are purchased separately from the addon.

Set on the user group under Email Verification:

  • View verification results
  • Verify email addresses (uses credits)
  • Run bulk list verification
  • Manage verification policies

Installation & first setup

Warning: Create a full file and database backup before installing. See Support.

  1. Upload emailverify to admin/addons/.
  2. Install and enable it in Addon Settings.
  3. Open Email Verification Settings, enter your ClearBounce API key (admins only; stored encrypted), and use Test connection.
  4. Choose Live or Deferred mode per entry point, set per-verdict policies, and grant group permissions/allowances.
  5. Ensure IEM cron/scheduler is running (Email Verification schedule is typically every 5 minutes).

Live vs Deferred

  • Live — check before accept. Best for admin manual adds when waiting is fine.
  • Deferred — accept immediately; verify on the next scheduler pass. Recommended for public forms.

The addon is fail-open: if the provider is unavailable, the subscriber is accepted unverified rather than lost.

Policies

For each verdict (invalid, disposable, role-based, catch-all, risky, unknown, error) choose Allow, Allow and flag, or Block. Deferred blocks can unsubscribe, delete, or only flag the contact.

Bulk verification

  1. Open Contact Lists → Email Verification.
  2. Select lists and start a verification job.
  3. Review Recent jobs for progress and results.
  4. Export invalid addresses to CSV and/or unsubscribe invalid contacts when ready.

Results are cached (default 60 days) so repeat checks of the same address do not spend another credit while the cache is valid.

Verification log & contact record

Every check is written to the Verification Log (including blocked signups that never became contacts). Verified contacts also get a timeline event and an Email verification status custom field you can use in segments.

Testing without spending credits

  • Use a ClearBounce cb_test_ sandbox API key, or
  • Set the provider to the built-in Stub simulator for offline testing.

Troubleshooting

  • Deferred checks stuck — confirm cron is running and the Email Verification schedule is enabled.
  • Forms feel slow — switch public forms to Deferred.
  • Out of credits mid-job — top up or wait for allowance renewal; paused jobs can resume.
